MARGAO
Call is Chor Bazaar or simply a Sunday Bazaar, vendors swarmed right on the Margao Station Road on Sunday, occupying every inch of space along the roadside and passages of adjoining business establishments.

In fact, migrant vendors made merry on Sunday with neither the Margao police nor the Municipal Market inspectors anywhere around the station road to keep the vendors or bay or at least push them away from the bus road.

Resultantly, traffic snarls became the order of the day on the congested Station Road throughout Sunday morning till noon, throwing up questions over the conduct of the bazaar right under the nose of the Municipal and police authorities.

In the past, the bazaar had earned notoriety with second hand goods including stolen goods were freely available at the Sunday bazaar. In fact, the men-in-uniform had cracked many theft cases by laying their hands on the thieves at the Old Station bazaar.

While the bazaar is being conducted in flagrant violation of the High Court order on encroachments on footpaths and roadsides, the Municipal and police authorities are turning a blind eye to the vending activity for reasons best known to them.

With hundreds of migrant vendors participating in the Sunday bazaar, questions are indeed being raised in the commercial capital as to who is instrumental in organising and coordinating the activity and why the authorities responsible for implementing the High Court order has turned a blind eye to the activity.
