The human body requires anything between 1800-2500 calories a day, depending on many factors. But we’re not going to go into details, because that’s where a dietician comes in. Go see them. What we do know is that it’s not always easy to watch what you’re eating and that requires a lot of dedication. So, when we came across a little photo feature by the Food Network on what 100 calories looked like, we thought it would be a good idea to share it. FN lists around 20-odd different kinds of food but many of them are either not available freely here in Goa or are in the ‘very expensive’ category. So, we thought we’d simplify it for everyone. We picked 10 examples of 100 calories. You could have one small baked potato, 60 grams of low fat cheddar, 9-10 spears of broccoli, around 12-14 steamed or boiled prawns, around 15 pieces of roasted unsalted cashews, 10 large carrots, approximately 28-30 spears of asparagus, around 35 pieces of wholegrain penne, about 60 green beans, boiled or steamed or 80 kidney beans.
Now that you know what 100 calories looks like, you’ll be able to mix and match them, when it comes to mealtimes. All of these are quite healthy produce. However, we do recommend consulting an expert before you do or eat anything.
