Goa’s crumbling roads continue to put lives at risk, with yet another self-accident reported on the pothole-ridden Mapusa–Parra road opposite Bodgeshwar temple on Wednesday.

A woman riding her two-wheeler from Canca towards Mapusa lost control after skidding into a deep pothole, sustaining head and leg injuries. She fell unconscious at the spot before locals rushed to her aid and alerted the 108 ambulance service, which shifted her to a hospital for treatment.

Residents of the area squarely blamed the poor condition of the road for the mishap. “These potholes have become death traps. Every day, we see riders struggling to balance their vehicles. Today’s accident could have been fatal,” said a rider near the accident site.

This is not the first such incident on the stretch. Just last month, a woman lost her life after falling off a motorcycle that went out of control on a bumpy patch near the Milton Marques junction along Canca road. In yet another case, a motorcyclist in Ponda was killed recently in a similar accident caused by a pothole-ridden road.

Angry residents have demanded immediate intervention by the authorities, warning that the delay in road repairs is costing innocent lives. “How many accidents will it take for the PWD to act? We are tired of lodging complaints. The government must take responsibility before more people die,” said another resident.

With monsoon showers continuing, locals fear that the worsening road conditions could lead to more accidents if urgent repairs are not carried out.
