Yogesh inspired by the I-Create initiative is all set to kick start his own catering service
Appreciating and thanking I-Create India’s commendable jobof igniting the minds of aspiring entrepreneurs, 21-year-old Yogesh Goswami, athird year student of MES College, Vasco is all set to kick start his owncompany – to provide packed lunch packets to executives at Verna IndustrialEstate.
“My time starts now. I can’t take the risk of allowingsomeone else to copy my business plan and implement it before me, making mydream slip into a sleeping mode. I will be stepping out of college in April-Maythis year and without wasting time doing my MBA, I want to start my packed foodservices immediately,” says Yogesh who agrees that after attending lectures onhow to develop entrepreneur skills by Manjeri Sundaram, he got inspired to thecore. “I-Create offered me a lot of exposure and my faculty at MES encouragedme at every step to clear my business plan at all three levels – college, stateand national,” admits Yogesh who would be the first generation of entrepreneurin his family, whose father Shyam Goswami is in the Indian Coast Guard andmother, a home maker.
Marketing is Yogesh’s favourite subject who has done hisfirst year internship at ‘Alphamindz’ in Panjim. During his second internshipat ‘Queeny Hotel’ in Zuarinagar, Yogesh did a market survey for the hotel tofind out the reason for not getting enough footfalls. “I found out that thehotel had set a low budget on advertising and also needed to improve theirservices. I submitted my report and yes, it did give positive results when thehotel management took me seriously and made the changes,” shares Yogesh.
His third internship was to begin this month at ‘Kaavay’, anew IT company at Verna where he would be promoting their products ineducational institutions. This ‘learning and earning’ would be for two monthsand Yogesh would be rewarded with commissions if he sells their customisedsoftware.
There is excitement in Yogesh’s voice while he explains hisambitious dream business plan, though he looks cool. “In Verna IndustrialEstate, there are 301 companies in Verna Industrial Estate and 39 more areunder construction. Some 10,000 people work here. Considering that 10 per centof them are managers and executives there are 1,000 people who would want ahealthy lunch every day at their office doorstep. Even if 30 per cent of them,i.e. 300 executives place order with me, I can generate 20 job opportunities. For preparing food for 300 persons daily, I would need minimum 20 aids. Goodfood and timely delivery are my value propositions of my proposed company‘Sutho’ which means ‘Eat Well’ in my language,” says Yogesh, originally fromNainital in Uttarakhand. Father’s postings took him to schools in Mumbai,Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and now finally in Goa. “I am in Goa for the pastseven years and would like to settle here if I succeed in my business,” heshares.
“My company would promote healthy food with a tag line‘Taste Matters’. I am sure my idea of starting catering services at Verna wouldclick as I have surveyed and found that most of the top executives prefer toeither go out for lunch or skip them but do not carry tiffin from home. Goingout for lunch needs sufficient time and there is only one restaurant at Verna,‘Mum’s Recipe’ which gets crowded during lunch hours. So if I am providing goodfood in time directly at one’s office doorstep, would anyone decline thistimely tasty offer? asks this confident future entrepreneur whose scores haveremained 80 per cent in Business Studies, Accounting and Economics.
