While Goa government has laid emphasis on enhancing Anganwadi centres including digital upliftment, there appears to be neglect in filling up of posts, given that there are 93 vacant positions for Anganwadi workers and helpers.

However, in contrast to a few States where these positions are filled, the vacancy count for Goa -- with around 1,500 Anganwadi centers -- is relatively minimal.

According to Lok Sabha data, there are 45 vacant positions for Anganwadi workers and 48 for Anganwadi helpers.

The government further stated that as per Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 Guidelines issued by the Ministry, promotional opportunities for Anganwadi workers have been enhanced wherein 50 per cent posts of Anganwadi workers have to be filled by promotion of Anganwadi helpers with five years of experience and 50 per cent posts of Supervisors to be filled by promotion of Anganwadi workers with five years of experience subject to fulfillment of other criteria.

The Central government has also requested States and Union Territories to adopt a uniform retirement date -- April 30 of each year -- with respect to Anganwadi workers and helpers to ensure proper human resource planning.
