Residents of Maina, Curtorim, continued their agitation against the mega housing project, even as the Curtorim Panchayat conducted a site inspection of the construction site on Tuesday.
Around nine out of the 11 Panchayat members, including Sarpanch Joaquim Estebeiro and the secretary, conducted an inspection of the construction project and resolved to write to the authorities to scrap the project.
While the local residents were present at the site inspection, they have resolved to further intensify the ongoing agitation against the housing project comprising 26 flats and 16 shops.
Local resident and Congress leader Moreno Rebello informed that the people of Maina are now bracing up to launch sustained protests against the housing project on a daily basis by erecting a tent near the construction site.
He further demanded that the Panchayat call a meeting with the villagers to chalk out the future course of action to force the authorities to scrap the project.
“Local residents will continue to protest at the tent till the project is scrapped. The agitation has now become a mass movement. We will now take the agitation to its logical conclusion,” Moreno warned.
Hundreds of local residents of Maina have come out to protest and flag the mega housing project in their locality since Sunday. The public meeting called to discuss the issue had evoked a good response from the local populace.
Monday saw the residents demonstrating at the project site in support of their demand to scrap the project, forcing the sarpanch to issue a stop-work notice and to conduct an inspection on Tuesday.
