Goa recorded over six accidents daily and about 5-6 fatal accidents per week in April, as road safety remains a concern in Goa.
In the monthly report compiled by the Directorate of Transport, there were 198 road accidents recorded in April, of which 24 were fatal accidents (North Goa – 12 and South Goa – 12). The total number of persons who lost their lives in road accidents were 26 with 12 in the north and 14 in the south district. Of those, 17 were riders, 04 pillion riders and five pedestrians.
The data further revealed that the month saw 15 grievous accidents (NG - 7 and SG - 8), 43 minor accidents (NG – 13 and SG – 30) and 116 non-injury accidents (NG - 51 and SG - 65). A total of 17 people were grievously injured while 76 persons sustained minor injuries.
The previous month also saw 198 accidents but fatalities were marginally low at 20 while January saw the highest total accidents at 211 even though the fatalities were at 22 – two less compared to April.
