The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a constituent of the INDIA bloc, finds itself at a critical juncture in the political landscape of Goa, particularly in the Bardez taluka, following its alliance with the Congress.

AAP's foray into Goan politics, marked by its independent contest in the 2022 assembly elections, ended in a resounding defeat in Bardez, raising pertinent questions about its electoral viability in the region.

In the assembly elections, AAP fielded candidates across all seven constituencies in Bardez, yet failed to secure a foothold, with none of its candidates making a significant impact. This lacklustre performance, exacerbated by the loss of deposits by all AAP candidates, underscored the party's struggle to resonate with voters in the region.

Of particular concern is the fate of the 8,281 votes garnered by AAP in the legislative assembly elections in 2022. With the party's diminished presence and credibility in Bardez post-defeat, the pivotal question arises: will these votes seamlessly transfer to the Congress, AAP's newfound ally, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections?

The efficacy of AAP's alliance with the Congress hinges on its ability to consolidate and mobilise its electoral base, channelling its support towards the larger opposition cause against the BJP.

Notably, the Bardez taluka has historically played a decisive role in securing an unassailable lead for BJP MP Shripad Naik in the North Goa constituency.

AAP's inability to make significant inroads in Bardez not only highlights its waning influence but also underscores the formidable electoral stronghold maintained by the BJP in the region.

AAP's post-election dynamics further compound its challenges in Bardez, with the conspicuous absence of party leaders from constituency activities post-assembly defeat. This vacuum in leadership and engagement reflects AAP's struggle to maintain relevance and organisational coherence, further diminishing its prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

As the political landscape evolves, AAP's role within the INDIA bloc and its ability to leverage its electoral base in support of Congress candidates in Goa will be closely scrutinised. The outcome of the Lok Sabha elections in Bardez will serve as a litmus test for AAP's resurgence or continued decline in Goan politics, shaping the broader narrative of opposition unity and electoral dynamics in the State.
