A day after former minister Govind Gaude launched a scathing attack on the BJP’s State President, the ruling party on Monday hit back, strongly condemning the remarks made by its own MLA.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Vasco MLA and BJP’s chief spokesperson Daji Salkar said legislators must exercise restraint while making public statements.
"Any MLA should think ten times before making allegations against the State President of a national party like the BJP," Salkar said.
He further asserted that no individual is bigger than the party. “The BJP has consistently demonstrated that it will act against those who bring disrepute to the organisation,” he added.
Gaude, who was recently dropped from the State Cabinet, had on Sunday told a public gathering that he would not step down from the BJP nor would he withdraw his support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
He also accused the party of punishing him for “speaking the truth”, referring to media reports which, according to him, misinterpreted his May 25 speech. The controversy around that speech is believed to have contributed to his exit.
