A car was gutted after it caught fire at Baina on Thursday evening, triggering a brief scare in the area.
According to the vehicle owner, there was no foul play involved in the incident. The owner stated that the fire appeared to have originated from the engine compartment while a routine check of the vehicle was being carried out. Within moments, the flames spread rapidly to other parts of the car.
On being alerted, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations. The blaze was brought under control before it could spread to nearby vehicles or property.
However, by the time the fire was extinguished, the car had been almost completely gutted.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined, though preliminary indications suggest a mechanical or electrical fault in the engine section. Further inquiries are underway.
