MAPUSA
Within hours of the civil society organisation Together for Mapusa (TFM) submitting a memorandum seeking details of monsoon preparedness and disaster management measures in Mapusa and entire Bardez, Deputy Collector Varsha Parab has convened a review meeting of key government departments to assess the state of readiness ahead of the rainy season. The meeting has been scheduled for June 12, with heads of various departments directed to attend along with progress reports on the actions taken pursuant to instructions issued during an earlier monsoon preparedness meeting held on April 7.
Official communication issued by the Deputy Collector's office states that the review has been called to facilitate effective coordination among departments and ensure preparedness for the approaching monsoon. The departments asked to participate include the Mapusa Municipal Council, Bardez Block Development Office, Mamlatdar's office, Electricity Department, Public Works Department, National Highways authorities, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Department, Agriculture Department, Health Department and Mapusa Police, among others.
Officials have been instructed to furnish updates on the status of works and measures undertaken in their respective jurisdictions, including implementation of directives issued during the April review meeting. The timing of the development has drawn attention, with the administration moving swiftly to seek status reports from all concerned departments.
