Fatorda selfie stunt backfires; fan taken into custody, selfie deleted

PANAJI: A Kerala football fan’s moment of dare during Al-Nassr’s AFC Champions League 2 match against FC Goa ended in police custody and a deleted selfie.

The incident occurred in the second half of the match at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Wednesday, as AL-Nassr footballer Joao Felix warmed up on the sidelines. The fan ran onto the pitch to hug and take a selfie with the Portugal star, with security personnel quickly intervening. He was later booked for trespass and endangering players, released on bail, and the selfie was deleted.

FC Goa CEO Ravi Puskur addressed the breach on X, saying, “Despite an elevated police presence, a fan managed to cross the pitch and enter the ground. This was a clear security failure.”

The club is expected to face a fine of around USD 10,000 (approximately Rs 8.8 lakh) from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the lapse in security.
