Says need to balance development with sustainability

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that Goa is a living classroom for environmental study, saying the state’s coastline, Western Ghats, river systems, biodiversity, and unique ecological heritage constantly remind everone of the need to balance development with sustainability.
In his message at the All India Juris Open 2025: Eco – Thinkers’ Fest – a national-level inter-law college event organised by Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao, with focus on the them Law as a catalyst for Environmental justice, the Chief Minister said he is proud to say that the government has adopted a firm commitment towards sustainable development.
He, however, said that Goa also demonstrates how economic progress and environmental responsibility can go hand-in-hand when policies are well-designed and community participation is strong. “Every major project in Goa today undergoes stringent environmental scrutiny, and we continue to promote green technology, waste-management innovations, and sustainable tourism practices”, the CM added.
In his address, Advocate General Sr Adv Devidas Pangam said that Goa’s situation is unique, saying “in Goa, tourism, livelihoods, culture, and ecology intersect every single day”.
The Thinker’s fest was inaugurated by Advocate General of Goa in the presence of Adv Pritam Morais, First Vice President of Vidya Vikas Mandal, Adv Prasad Naik, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr Maria Goretti Morais, Officiating Principal of the Law College, Adv Ann Furtado, President of the Alumni Association, Dr Shruti Nadkarni, convenor and Vrushank Gaonkar, General Secretary of the Students Council.
