PANAJI: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has invited tenders for the construction of a Rs 125.59 crore immersive Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum at Farmagudi, designed to blend history with cutting-edge digital storytelling. The museum will recreate the Maratha ruler’s life and legacy through 3D and 4D animation, holograms, spatial audio, AR and VR experiences, laser visuals, and projection-mapped scenography, offering visitors a walk-through cinematic experience.
The project, approved by the State Cabinet in May, had its foundation stone laid by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in August. It will span 29,212 square metres, including the existing fort area, and is targeted for completion by March–April 2026.
Implemented under the Central government’s Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, the project will receive Rs 97.46 crore from the Centre and Rs 28.13 crore from the State. The PWD has already floated tenders worth Rs 64.91 crore, including 18% GST, and presented a conceptual video showcasing the museum’s proposed design and experience.
Planned highlights include a war costume gallery, boat gallery, and a replica of the Saptakoteshwar Stambh, reflecting Shivaji Maharaj’s maritime and spiritual heritage. Supporting facilities such as yoga pavilions, horse trails, cafés, souvenir shops, and a light and sound show will add to the visitor experience.
The museum’s design will also prioritise accessibility and inclusivity, with facilities such as large coach parking, restrooms, and amenities for persons with disabilities to ensure a comfortable visitor experience.
