Promote message of 'service along with devotion.'

Devotees (dhonds), who are observing the sacred vow of Lairai Devi of Shirgao, are currently residing at various camps (talas). Along with their religious practices, they have set an inspiring example by contributing to society.
At Charavane village in Thane-Sattari, these devotees undertook the cleaning of a neglected village well and cleared a difficult pathway leading towards the Chorla highway, thereby promoting the message of “service along with devotion.”
According to locals, devotees across different camps in Sattari have been engaged in religious activities such as chanting, bhajans, kirtans, and Satyanarayan puja for the past six days. While many camps also organise social initiatives, the devotees at Charavane chose to directly address the village’s needs through voluntary physical labour (shramdaan).
The village well had been neglected for several years, filled with garbage and silt. Demonstrating courage and dedication, some devotees descended into the well and cleaned it. By removing the accumulated waste and silt, the well has now been restored for use, providing villagers with a cleaner water source.
In addition, the old footpath connecting the village to the Chorla route had been neglected for nearly two years. Overgrown bushes and scattered stones had made it unsafe for use.
Recognising this issue, the devotees cleared the entire path through collective effort. As a result, villagers can now travel safely, and the route towards Belgaum–Surla has become accessible once again.
Speaking about the initiative, one of the devotees said, “While worshipping the Goddess, one must also strive to resolve problems faced by society. Mere display of devotion has no meaning. God resides in hard work. When we sincerely serve society, that itself becomes true devotion.”
He further added, “In today’s times, even bringing a few people together is difficult. However, this sacred vow has united us. With this unity, we were able to carry out meaningful social work. We will continue such efforts in the future.”
This initiative has created a positive atmosphere in the village, earning appreciation from all sections.
Many have expressed hope that devotees in other camps will also take up similar social activities. This effort stands as a true example of blending religious tradition with social responsibility and serves as an inspiration for many.
