Man held for stabbing youth in broad daylight at Baga

A 31-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed a youth following a dispute over money near Baga Circle on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the offence was registered based on a complaint filed by Sunil Rathod (23), a businessman originally from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, currently residing in Candolim.

In his complaint, Rathod stated that the incident occurred at around 12.30 pm near Baga Circle, Calangute.

The accused, identified as Samir Singh Rajput (31), a resident of Calangute originally from Rajasthan, allegedly began abusing Rathod’s friend, Karan Magare, in filthy language over a monetary dispute.

Police said that during the altercation, Rajput allegedly approached Magare from behind and stabbed him in the back with a kitchen knife.

The attack reportedly caused serious bleeding injuries to the victim, who was rushed for medical treatment.

Based on the complaint, Calangute police registered an offence under Sections 118(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The accused was subsequently taken into custody.

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Vishwajit Dhavlikar to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the attack.
