PANAJI
A young man jumped off the Mandovi Bridge during the late hours of Tuesday. He has been identified as Farooq Usman, aged 27 years, and worked with a washing centre.
According to the police, Farooq and his brother were walking along the new Mandovi bridge around 11.45 pm when the former took the drastic step. His brother immediately called the police and fire control rooms, informing them about the incident.
Farooq’s slippers were found on the bridge itself while firefighters used local fishing boats to locate the youth, who was feared drowned. The search is still underway.
Sources said the youth was distressed as he was unable to find a suitable job.
