Margao police crack whip against cars with tinted glasses

MARGAO
The South Goa district police top brass descended on the city roads on Saturday evening to ensure that not a single car moves around the district with tinted glasses.

While the drive against riding sans helmets and with motorcycles with modified silencers, besides cars with tinted glasses, had begun from September 1, district police chief, SP Pankaj Kumar Singh, said the police has intensified the drive across the district to rein in the motor vehicle violators.

Besides SP Pankaj Kumar Singh, newly-appointed Margao Sub-divisional Police Officer, DySP Sahil Narangal, Margao police station in-charge PI Sachin Narvekar, besides traffic police and constables descended on the Khareband bridge on Saturday to book the violators.

In fact, motorists were caught by surprise as the men-in-uniform descended on the Khareband bridge to check motor vehicle violations.

Policemen, including Margao PI Sachin Narvekar were seen removing the tint from the vehicles found violating the rules in force.

SP Pankaj later told the media at the spot that the police has so far challaned around 30-40 cars for driving with tinted glasses.

“We have decided to concentrate on vehicle owners violating the rules on tinted glasses, besides riders sans helmets and modified silencers,” he added.

“The police have so far challaned around 200 cars this month itself for violating the rules on tinted glasses,” he said, adding that the police will ensure that no car moves around the South Goa district in tinted glasses.

While the drive is expected to continue and intensified in the coming days, the police top brass has decided to introduce an element of surprise in the ongoing drive.

While the drive will take place every day from 5 pm to 8 pm, the location is expected to change daily.

SP Pankaj maintained that the location will change every day to ensure the drive is taken to its logical conclusion.

In his order, SP Pankaj had directed the local police and the PCR vans and traffic police to hold joint checking at various important junctions in their police station jurisdiction daily.

The joint checking will take place only at one point/junction on any given day, adding that the points/ junctions will change every day.

The order has mandated the police to erect barricading to stop and check vehicles, while the staff has been directed to suitably arm themselves and use reflective jackets, torches, reflective batons for better visibility.
