Sawant says ITI after Std 8 to count as SSC in Goa
PORVORIM
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the Goa Board has been directed to affiliate one school in every taluka to facilitate external studies and board exams for Class X and XII candidates.
“The process must be simplified, and the examination fee must be capped at Rs 1,000, as the existing system is too complicated. The Goa Board should allow Std 8 failed students to complete SSC exams, and no student in Goa should remain as Std 8 failed, “said Sawant.
He was speaking at Porvorim after inaugurating the Visually Enhanced Premises of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) at Porvorim on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee year of the Goa Board in the presence of Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar, Director of Education Shailesh Zingade and Chairman of GBSHSE Bhagirath G Shetye.
Speaking further, Sawant said those completing two years of ITI after Std 8 will be treated as SSC pass, while a two-year ITI course after SSC will be recognised as equivalent to HSSC.
“Notification has been issued, making them eligible for government and private sector jobs. Not everyone needs graduation if they are properly skilled,” said Sawant.
Stating that Goa has set a benchmark in the education sector, the Chief Minister said the Goa Board has implemented the New Education Policy, adding that the results have been good. He advised teachers to impart education in such a way that students acquire the confidence to appear for competitive exams.
“It is the duty of teachers to identify talent in their students and to motivate them to develop that skill to achieve success in their career,” said Sawant.
The Chief Minister also said he has directed the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and the PWD to encourage local talent for artwork in buildings, which could save fees paid to consultants. He lauded the Goa Board for getting artwork done in their premises with the help of art teachers.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte also spoke on the occasion, while Goa Board Secretary Vidyadatta B Naik later proposed the vote of thanks. Art teachers were felicitated on the occasion.
