The community of Pilerne will celebrate Konkani Day at the Zero Waste Inclusive Pilerne Thursday Heritage Market at the St John the Baptist Church Courtyard from 6 pm to 9 pm on Thursday.

Under the theme ‘Konkani Dis’ or ‘Konkani Day’, the market will pay homage to the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Goa. Dalgado Konkani Academy and Thomas Stephan Konkani Kendr will be special invitees at the market, adding depth and significance to the celebrations.

Tomazinho Cardozo, renowned Konkani literary figure and distinguished Goan playwright of the Konkani Tiatr theatre, will grace the event as a keynote speaker.

While celebrating Konkani culture, attendees can also enjoy an array of stalls offering mangoes, mango pickles, mango sweets, artwork, candles and authentic Goan cuisine.

As part of the festivities, there will be a Konkani musical programme featuring homegrown talent performing traditional Konkani songs, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the market.

Accessible to all, including wheelchair users, the market provides a welcoming space for everyone to indulge in Goa’s finest culinary delights while enjoying live music performances. With ample seating and a warm, inviting atmosphere, attendees are encouraged to mingle, socialize and make new friends.

Fr Derrick Xavier Fernandes, the parish priest, said, “The Zero Waste Inclusive Pilerne Thursday Heritage Market is more than just a market, it is a celebration of community, culture, and inclusivity.”
