A motor rally by students following student council elections at a college in Ponda proved costly, as a number of students were found violating traffic rules.

According to sources, the college had conducted student council elections a few days ago and the winning group later staged a motor rally in Ponda town.

During the rally, some students were seen sitting on the bonnets of vehicles, some two-wheelers had loud silencers, and a few vehicles did not have number plates.

Videos of the victory rally and the traffic violations were posted on social media, sparking off angry reactions from viewers.

Taking note of the social media images, the police directed the vehicle owners to appear at the traffic police station on Saturday and were issued challans for violating traffic rules.
