MAPUSA: By-elections will be conducted for Ward 1 of Tivim panchayat and Ward 7 of Assonora panchayat on Sunday.
The four candidates in the fray for Ward 1 in Tivim are Ghanshyam Aroskar, Neeraj Nagvekar, Ramchandan Salgaonkar and Ravindra Aroskar, while the three candidates vying for Ward 7 in Assonora are Mita Naik, Shankar Naik and Vijay Banavalikar.
While 1,047 voters will cast their votes for the Tivim ward by-election, 346 voters will exercise their franchise in the Assonora ward by-election. Elections in Ward 1 at Tivim were necessitated following the death of Arjun Aroskar on January 12, while elections in Ward 7 of Assonora are taking place following the death of Milesh Naik on February 2. Ravindra Aroskar, brother of the late Arjun Aroskar, and Mita Naik, wife of the late Milesh Naik, are in the fray in the by-election.
