South Goa Congress MP Candidate Captain Viriato Fernandes on Sunday expressed confidence over a thumping victory for the Congress in South Goa.

Speaking to media at Shantinagar, Fernandes said that the campaign was now to secure a push in the winning lead.

"We are only campaigning to push our lead because we want to win with record margin that has never been achieved in South Goa. This is the confidence of the people who have been working very hard for the Congress because Goans are very intelligent and already decided their vote. We have to see the major issues being faced by Goans especially related to unemployment which is the highest in the country and crime rate which has gone to its peak and made Goa into a crime capital of India.

"Several other issues are atrocities and injustice faced by common man including SC, ST and fishermen besides the threat of closure of Goa's Dabolim Airport. We will take the voice of Goans into the parliament to prevent the damage and save Goa for the future generations," said Fernandes.

Fernandes said that the delay in declaring the Congress candidate had turned into a positive wave with people taking over the campaigning for the Congress.

"I have received so much affection and love across all the constituencies that people have taken over the campaign. The people are more confident then me when it comes to the elections and they have called me for several meetings that have been organised by them in different areas.

"The delay in announcing my candidature also played a major role because people were initially very upset and worried but it seems that now they are relaxed and working very hard . In fact it has now turned into a huge wave which has surged and there will be a tsunami of votes for the Congress which also indicates that the incumbency is at its worst against the BJP," said Fernandes.
