The Goa government has spent Rs 11.28 lakh on investigating cybercrime cases since 2023, even as more than a hundred such cases remain pending for over six months.
Responding to an unstarred question by MLA Govind Gaude, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said a total expenditure of Rs 11,28,900 had been incurred on cybercrime investigations from 2023 to January 31, 2026. During this period, 132 cases were solved. The data also showed that 103 cybercrime cases are still pending investigation for more than six months.
The reply further stated that the Goa Police registered 313 cybercrime cases during this period with investigations conducted in 185 of those cases.
The government stated that the police regularly conduct cyber safety and awareness programmes across the State to educate citizens about online threats. These programmes focus on digital fraud prevention, safe use of internet banking, social media security and the process for reporting cyber offences.
The CM also said the initiatives are carried out through police outreach activities, community policing programs, engagement with educational institutions and public awareness campaigns, often in collaboration with civil society organisations.
The government also said Women Help Desks are operational at all police stations in Goa, providing guidance and assistance to victims, including in cyber-related complaints involving women and senior citizens.
Cyber Crime Cell personnel posted at these desks help victims record complaints, guide them on legal and procedural aspects and coordinate with authorities for investigation and resolution of cases. In cases involving senior citizens, the desks also provide assistance in reporting offences, refer matters for technical investigation and, when required, inform family members or legal guardians while keeping complainants updated on the progress of their cases.
