Coal transportation trumps public welfare

The railways is a government company that belongs to the people. It is paid for by the taxes and ticket money of ordinary people, so it should work for their benefit. Protests against the railway double-tracking project in Mollem, Goa, and surrounding areas have been ongoing for several years, led by local residents, environmentalists, and opposition parties. It seems this project is mainly for moving coal, which helps coal companies more than it helps local people.  Citizens are bearing the environmental consequences of decisions seemingly shaped by a capitalist mindset collaborating with corrupt government officials and politicians, who appear determined to exploit natural resources. Marketing narratives often manipulate public perception, touting coal's importance and mining's employment generation, yet these pursuits risk incurring profound costs on citizens and the environment. These kinds of projects show that money often comes before people and the environment. It is vital that railway projects and policy decisions align with serving the broader public interest, balancing development with environmental and social stewardship.
