It was heartening to learn that the Goa govt has responded favourably to the Supreme court's order on stray dog rehabilitation in shelters, by setting up a 3-member task force to look into the matter . Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Nilkanth Halarnkar has also confirmed that the state govt will create the infrastructure for stray shelters after the final order of the Supreme court. Encouraging words indeed as of now. However, it remains to be seen how land for the shelter homes will be acquired and made available, going by past experiences of failed projects due to stiff opposition by the local population. The setting up of an IIT campus in the state is a case in point, which has dragged on for several years.
