Goa is worth fighting for the future generations

JOHN ERIC GOMES, Porvorim | 19th January, 07:31 pm

Why do we have to fight and who are we fighting against? Our own elected government. They have all taken an oath to serve by the Constitution and not to rule against the people. And why are 15 MLAs reportedly under personal threat perception unknown to the people, being provided security cover under state funding? We are fed with unwanted development and nation first jargon to justify illegalities and unconstitutional behaviour. Enough is Enough movement after the Birch Arpora fire and the present state of affairs is now led by Justice Ferdino Rebello and 10-pt charter drawn up by the Goans and residents who assembled in large numbers. These have been given to the CM, President of India and the PM for consideration. The winter session going on in the Assembly does not seem to reflect our grave concerns. Why are laws and Bills being bulldozed without proper discussion and requiring the elected Opposition to walk out? Rampant illegalities affecting land use, destruction of forests and wetlands, disastrous environmental fallout must be prevented and equitable justice for all with constitutional law and order is the need of the hour.
