Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan President Kenedy Afonso has announced that a Private Member's Resolution seeking the introduction of Romi Konkani as an optional subject in schools will be tabled in the Goa Legislative Assembly on July 25. He has appealed to CM Pramod Sawant and all 40 MLAs to rise above party lines and endorse the rightful demands of Goa's minority communities.
Unfortunately, leaders of Konkani Bhasha Mandal and the Akhil Bhartiya Konkani Parishad have now reportedly appealed to the ruling dispensation along with opposition MLAs not to support any such bill/resolution as they claim that by splitting children based on script will divide them on communal lines in Goa.
Aren’t these pro-Maharashtrawadi elements themselves promoting the so-called 'divisions' in schools by casually allowing children of the majority community to study in Marathi, while forcing children of the minority community to study only in Devanagari-Konkani in Goa?
Well, these selfish anti-Goan leaders should stop giving their same old outdated lame excuses to keep Roman-Konkani out from schools to keep dividing our children on communal lines and instead should accept the demands of the minority community to introduce the same as an optional subject in schools to really unite our Goan children based on common sense and to save Konkani in Goa.
