Strays in Calangute must be secured in shelters

ROBERT CASTELLINO, Calangute/ Mumbai | 12th August, 08:02 pm

The Supreme Court has  directed Delhi civic authorities  to remove all stray dogs from streets within 8 weeks and put them in shelters.  They are to be sterilized and vaccinated and taken well care of, without being released again.  Further no person will be permitted to adopt stray dogs ( obviously to prevent  temporary protection ).  Anyone preventing authorities  from catching strays must be dealt with  by the law. For those opposing the move, the court  asked would they be able to bring back children mauled by strays? I think this move, though very severe, is necessary.  Goa is being overrun  by strays. Calangute is the worst affected.  I think all strays in Calangute  should be rounded up and put in shelters.  Tourists and locals  will heave a sigh of relief.
