Time to boost our State's agricultural productivity

How dependent we in Goa are on our neighbouring states like Karnataka and Maharashtra is borne out by the data shared recently at the ongoing Assembly session by the Goa State Horticultural Corporation Limted (GSHCL). According to the report, a whopping 12,000-13,000 tonnes of onions and potatoes each, are imported annually by the state, in addition to smaller imports of brinjal, cucumber , drumsticks , etc. A very dismal picture of our Agricultural Department even after 6 decades, given that Goa is essentially an agricultural state . It is time  we step  up our agricultural productivity by resorting to modern methods and technology In farming so that our farmers can earn a decent price for their crops and the people  of Goa are not subjected to exorbitant prices for their daily requirements  and do not have to depend on other states.
