The Goa Police Department faces a staff shortage across ranks, affecting its efficiency. This, along with lack of training and resources, impacts law and order. The state government must prioritise recruitment, especially of women officers, to improve gender balance. The Centre has advised states to boost women’s representation in police, ensure welfare measures, and provide safe working conditions, including housing and medical facilities. Police modernisation is essential to meet society’s changing needs. Despite six committees, including the National Police Commission, recommending major reforms, these have largely remained unimplemented. Urgent action is needed to strengthen and professionalise the force.
