The recent tweet on Indian farmers’ protests by pop singer Rihanna seems to have shaken the government.
Rihanna is not representing any government or group. She is an individual singer and a celebrity in her own right.
The Government of India by taking such serious cognizance and subsequent reaction only gives her undue publicity. Individuals have their freedom and perception of events. Rihanna’s remarks whether right or wrong should be ignored and do not deserve debate much less government reaction.
In the same vein Kangana Raunat makes headlines and is perceived as receiving government support and patronage to stir hornets nests.
Rihanna cannot influence policies or many Indians may not even have any idea about who she is and from where she comes. By reacting to such tweets, Rihanna has only been raised to a higher pedestal.
Many of our citizens have made much more undesirable caustic observations on the longest-ever farmers protests which is a reality.
