After proposing to make Baina one of the model beaches in the state, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar has now requested the tourism department to revive the Kharewado beach. It is learnt that instructions have been issued to carry out cleanliness, proper illumination and provide sitting arrangements at the beach on a priority basis. In the bygone years, Kharewado beach was clean, well maintained and a meeting point for Vascoites and visitors to the beach. Several programmes as well as beach cricket and football matches were held here. Many of the senior citizens from the port town will have sweet memories of the time spent on this beach. However over the years, as a result of unplanned fishing activities and population growth, the beach is now in a pathetic state. One can see stray animals roaming on the beach and feeding on the thrash. Cleanliness drive is of prime importance as there is a lot of garbage strewn all over the place. Facilities like washrooms, hotels and restaurants could also be introduced. This could provide self employment to the locals. The beach also needs ample parking space in close proximity.
