The feast of St John the Baptist was celebrated with enthusiasm on 24th June across Goa, especially in Catholic areas. But are we truly honouring him? The Bible says he was a holy man who preached repentance, baptised people, spoke of Jesus, and never drank alcohol. Yet in Goa, many mark the day with beer, fancy costumes, jumping into wells or pools, and loud music. Some say this celebrates his leap in Elizabeth’s womb. But does that justify partying? Why not attend Mass and reflect on his life instead? These noisy customs don’t reflect his message. It’s time to rethink our ways.
