This is with reference to the news report ‘Sawant pledges to donate his organs’ ( TGE, Sept 29). Saving the lives of humans by donating one’s organs during and after one’s life time, is the greatest service to humanity that one can possibly render. It is therefore for this reason ‘World Organ Donation day’ is observed on August 13 every year, to create awareness and encourage people to become organ donors to save more lives. Chief Minister Sawant should therefore be commended for setting us an example by pledging to donate his kidneys, liver and eyes after death.
