Wasteful school bus routes need a smarter system

This is to bring to the attention of the education department and the government that there is a need to rethink the government-run school bus system. At present, almost all schools send their buses to the same neighbouring villages. This results in multiple school buses running on the same village-to-school routes, with each bus taking only its own students. This duplication can be avoided with better planning. I also feel that the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) could maintain and service these school buses. Another option is to allow each school bus to pick up a certain number of students from different schools, based on the lists provided by each school. Sometimes, school buses run with very few students, while others are overcrowded. A proper audit of student data should be carried out to find out how many students travel from each village to school. Based on this data, the right number of buses can be arranged, with the ADEI of each taluka coordinating the school bus system.
