Goa’s senior citizens celebrate joy and togetherness at ‘Anandotsav’

Over 200 senior citizens in Goa celebrated the second edition of Jyeshtha Nagrik Anandotsav 2026 on February 1 at Panaji Convention Centre dedicating the event to the vibrancy and contributions of the elderly to the society. Organised by YUVA Panaji and the directorate of Social Welfare, the event featured 10 thoughtfully curated events throughout the day. Supported by the Rotary Club of Dona Paula, there were activities like diya painting, handwriting competition, sweet dish making, storytelling, monologue, group dance, Mr & Mrs Evergreen, garland/fati making, fruit carving and solo singing – all of these giving a platform to senior citizens to express themselves and connect with each other.

The overwhelming response and positive feedback from participants highlighted the significance of such initiatives in fostering a joyful and inclusive environment for the elderly. Many senior citizens expressed their gratitude for the platform provided to showcase their talents and relive cherished memories through cultural engagement.

Dr Rufino Monteiro, founding president of YUVA along with Azeema Kulkarni, president of Rotary Club of Dona Paula appreciated the initiative taken for senior citizens. Aman Bhandare, president YUVA briefed about the activities of YUVA. Raghuvir Mahale, founder at YUVA explained the motto behind the Anandotsav. Mahale appreciated Azeema’s support and thanked Dr Rufino for his guidance in early days that helped YUVA to get a stronger foundation on which it is growing for the last 13 years.

Dr Rufino appreciated the efforts put in by all the members and recalled that YUVA was looked upon with high hopes by the then Chief Minister Mahohar Parrikar and expressed happiness that YUVA has kept upon the same zeal and passion to work for society for all these years.
