There isn’t going to be any big party when Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa pays visit to his ancestral home here in mid-January, but excitement is already in the air amongst his close relatives back home.

Indeed, come January 11-12 and Aba de Faria lane – known in the commercial capital for its rich architecture and conservation zone – will play host to its proud son, who rose to become the Prime Minister of Portugal around a year ago.

Family members of the Costa family appears all excited and are anxiously looking forward for Antonio Costa’s visit as he is visiting his ancestral house after two decades and half. Antonio’s cousin Annarina’s phone has not stopped ringing ever since the media reported the visit of the Portuguese Prime Minister to Goa and to his ancestral home located on the busy Aba de Faria road.

His niece Annarina Costa was all excited after learning about Antonio’s visit to Goa. “Yes, I was very excited and am looking forward his Antonio’s visit to the house. He would be on an official visit, but it would be nice to have him here in our midst,” Annarina said.

The last time Antonio visited his ancestral home was around 25 years ago when Annarina was studying in college. “That time he had come on an official visit as part of an official delegation,” she added.

That Antonio is coming home after a long, long time, Annarina said the family would like to keep the visit a private affair. “He would definitely need rest and we would like to spend some time with him. Though I had called on him and his family in Portugal in May last, he certainly would require rest when he comes down to Goa,” he said.

Annarina was categorical in saying that there isn’t going to be any big bash in the house and the family would like to keep the visit a private affair.

She, however, has no idea whether Antonio’s wife or children will be accompanying him to Goa.

While Annarina is excited to have his cousin back in his ancestral house, she is awaiting further details from Portugal. “No special preparations for the visit,” Annarina said, when asked whether Antonio will be served Goa’s delicacy Bebinca, Dodol and Sorpotel.
