Leadership question looms over Congress ahead of 2027 polls

As the New Year has dawned, all eyes are focused on the Congress party for a host of reasons. A key question doing the rounds is whether the party command is satisfied with the State leadership following the outcome of the recently held Zilla Panchayat polls. If not, is the party contemplating any action against the current leadership—possibly even a leadership change—to gear up for the 2027 Assembly battle? If a change is indeed on the cards, who will be the alternative for the party’s top post? Will it be former GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar, who has long been waiting in the wings to reclaim leadership? Or will the Congress zero in on a fresh face to steer the party into the 2027 Assembly elections? For now, many questions remain unanswered.
