6 months on, no induction of Cong turncoats in cabinet

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MARCH 05, 2023, 12:13 AM IST

Margao MLA Diggu is on a vacation to the UK with family members, indicating there isn’t going to be any induction of the Congress turncoats in the Pramod Sawant Cabinet in the next fortnight. Sources, however, informed that a Congress-turned-BJP MLA is believed to have contacted the BJP top brass in Delhi just to find out whether there’s any good news in store for him in the immediate future. While the turncoats have been accommodated with positions on Corporations, the heavyweights have been left high and dry till date. It would be six months on March 14 that the eight-member group had quit the Congress to embrace the BJP. Wait and watch.

Sardinha blames ‘money’ power for Nagaland election debacle

What exactly has gone wrong for the Congress that the party drew a blank in the North Eastern state of Nagaland that went to the polls earlier this week? Well, pose this question to Goa’s very own, MP Francisbab Sardinha, who was drafted by the Congress High Command to oversee Assembly election in Nagaland. Sources say Sardinhbab is believed to have informed party functionaries that money has played a major role in the recently-held polls in Nagaland. Sources further said even use of money would not have helped the party win the election and the party might have ended up in winning three seats or maximum 10 seats? Interesting, isn’t it?

MMC planning to foot data entry operators’ salary from civic funds

Will the Margao Municipal Council ignore the fiat issued by the Urban Development Ministry headed by Vishwajitbab Rane to submit compliance on the recruitment of the 10 data entry operators? Well, the first time the DMA’s office sent a letter dated February 1, withdrawing the approval for the recruitment of the date entry operators, the Diggu-civic body ignored the letter. Sources now say the civic body may not take cognisance of the latest fiat to file compliance report. Guess why? The MMC is planning to foot the salary bill of the 10 data entry operators from the Municipal fund and not on government grant.  Any questions?

Yuri has task for smooth transfer of power in Cuncolim council

Leader of Opposition Yuribab Alemao had successfully foiled the Saffron brigade’s bid to dislodge the Cuncolim Municipal Council in his backyard last year. Since then, the Yuri-controlled civic body has not faced any fresh attempts to dislodge the Council. The Cuncolim MLA, however, has a task at hand – how to ensure a smooth transfer of power from incumbent Chairperson Laxmanbab Naik to a member of the ruling group? For some time now, political circles have been abuzz with reports that former chairperson Landry Mascarenhas may emerge as a consensus choice of candidate of the Yuri-backed ruling group for the coveted post. Wait and watch.

When Digambar downplayed criticism on ‘negative’ news

With city-based NGOs and the media highlighting many a burning issue plaguing the commercial capital, Diggu has sought to downplay criticism in his inimitable fashion. He reminded that he has nothing to worry when Madgavkars rally behind him. And, he reminded that he has never interfered with the media nor sought to block news. A senior scribe, however, was overheard saying Diggu had in the past complained to the media houses on negative news published against the MLA. Any takers?
