South district hospital bed crunch rekindles calls to open top floors

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | 15th June, 12:21 am

Is there any solution to the bed shortage plaguing the South Goa district hospital? Yes, doctors, para-medics and citizens all suggest a simple answer – open the hospital’s top two floors to accommodate more beds and patients. In fact, both Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant and his Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane may have to face a simple question – why is the government pushing for a medical college/ nursing college on the top two floors of the district hospital, when patients are being accommodated on stretchers and wheel chairs for lack of sufficient beds. Indeed time for introspection.

Balancing act: Damu juggles party building and crisis control

Apart from strengthening the party organisation, BJP State president Damubab Naik must have realised that he had to repeatedly engage in fire-fighting to resolve crisis like situations in the last five months. When the Bhandari Samaj leaders launched a campaign for OBC census, Damubab was in the thick of action. The Govind Gaude episode came as a testing time for the BJP State president as he shuttled between Goa and Delhi to brief party leadership. The recent GMC episode involving Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane saw Damubab working behind the scenes, keeping the party leadership abreast of the developments. Any questions?

The Goa Forward chief must have been certainly pleased to see cross section of people extending their blessings and support. Any takers?

Cong camp abuzz as new entrant Chirag Naik maintains low profile

Where’s Chirag Naik, is a question doing the rounds in Congress circles in the commercial capital, a month after his induction in the party. For, this question is being raised by his detractors in party circles and outside whether Chirag is yet to descend on the streets to take Congress-turned-BJP MLA Diggu head on. Sources, however, pointed out that Chirag is on the move, silently interacting with people since his formal induction in the party. Chirag seemed working to a strategy, sources say. Wait and watch.
