Curtorim Gymkhana edged past Canacona Sports & Cultural Club 5-4 via tiebreaker to seal their place in the quarter-finals of the Assumpta Cup 2026 at Sarzora Football Ground on Wednesday.
Canacona SCC made a bright start, with Ronaldo Oliveira tapping in to give them a 1-0 lead. They soon doubled their advantage as Mehbub Hublikar struck to make it 2-0. However, Curtorim Gymkhana pulled one back just before half-time to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
After the break, Curtorim fought back strongly, with Anselm Fernandes scoring the equaliser to make it 2-2 and force the match into a tense finish.
In the penalty shootout, Curtorim Gymkhana held their nerve to win 5-4. For Canacona, Mehbub and Pralhad found the net, while for Curtorim, Jovel, Crisewal and Vicky converted their spot-kicks.
Earl Fernandes was adjudged Man of the Match and received the award from Fr. Hensile Furtado, priest of Sarzora.
