Last year’s champion schools look forward to SKF Goa River Marathon

School teams that won maximum prizes last year are looking forward to the 13th edition of the SKF Goa River Marathon scheduled to be held on Sunday, December 10 in Chicalim.

Vasco Sports Club, organisers of the popular SKF Goa River Marathon had introduced the 5km race, under-17 age group race for school students, for both girls and boys last year. Each school is allowed to field four runners. Prizes are given to the fastest individual runners and fastest teams based on the best average timings.

The Murgaon High School from Vasco won several prizes last year. Their boys' team was adjudged fastest, while their girls' team came second. Vikas Pal, who was the fastest boys runner last year with an impressive time of 20:51 minutes, said, “I enjoy this race because the warm-ups are excellent and the route is very scenic.” Their coach, Vivek Naik said his teams were practising for the last two months and were confident of winning many medals on December 10.

The Vidya Vihar High School from Cortalim also won several medals last year. Their girls' team was adjudged the fastest last year. Survi Gaonkar, a class X student said, “I love this race because so many people are cheering you along the route.” Their coach, Deepak Venktappa said that his team was practising for one hour every day despite not having their own ground.
