FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez addressed the ongoing injury concerns surrounding defender Seriton Fernandes ahead of their upcoming match against Chennaiyin FC on Thursday evening.
Marquez confirmed that Seriton is still struggling with fitness issues, stating, "He arrived with an injury in preseason, and his recovery has been challenging. Even in the game against Mohammedan, his physical condition was not the best. He played only with his experience."
Despite Seriton's long-standing connection with the club and the affection he receives from fans, Marquez emphasized the importance of managing his fitness. "He is a player with a lot of years in Goa, and it's normal to have these challenges after such a long time at one club," he explained.
Reflecting on the previous match against Mumbai City, Marquez admitted, "My mistake last week was to include Seriton in the squad because he was not available to play." With FC Goa keen to secure points against Chennaiyin, the coach will have to weigh the risks of including an unfit player against the potential benefits of his experience on the pitch.
