PAK hammer Mobor Boys 5-2, reach semis

PAK mauled Mobor Boys 5-2 to enter the semis of the II Santan and Silvio Mendes Memorial Soccer 2023 organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and sponsored by Solomon Mendes, prop, Sams Milmar Restaurant, Assolna, at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.

In the 6th minute, PAK took the lead off a through pass by Das to Royson, who placed the ball in the nets, beating Mobor keeper Rieaston. In quick succession, Mobor mounted pressure on PAK and levelled the score 1-1 by Meavon.

Melbert scored the second goal with a powerful shot to make it 2-1 in favour of PAK at half time. In the second half, Mobor scored through Jana to level the score 2-2. Linton of PAK  quickly took the lead making it 3-2 and Melbert made it 4-2. Later a long-range shot by Josh Afonso of PAK  entered the right corner of the goal to make the scoreline 5-2 to put PAK in the semis.

Uguem Rising reach quarters
Uguem Rising Club routed CAC Cansaulim 5-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament played at Padribhat football ground on Sunday.

Mackson D’Costa scored a brilliant hat-trick while Italio Gomes and Handlee Carvalho scored a goal each for Uguem Rising. Mackson D’Costa of Ugem Rising Club was presented the man of the match award at the hands  of Andrew Ferraro, GFA executive committee member. 

AWES Cup: Bardez Veterans win
Bardez Veterans delighted the crowd at the Sinquetem Ground Navelim on Sunday with an enthralling 3-0 victory over Chinchinim Veterans in the Sesa Vedanta Awes Veterans tournament. Both teams started the game on a cautious note. As the match progressed,  Bardez Veterans took over the control and created forays into the rival penalty area. Bardez Veterans sounded the warning as Cyril D’Costa’s rasping shot was blocked by Chinchinim Veterans goalkeeper Wilson Fernandes.

A couple of minutes later Cyril D Costa’s snap shot was saved by Chinchinim goalkeeper. At the other end, Chinchinim’s Aldrin Lobo shot wide. Micdomio Rebello, former Salgaocar footballer who was the chief guest was introduced to the teams by Derrick Pereira, president of AWES, in the presence of Padmashree Brahamanand Shankvalkar, Adlear D’Cruz,  secretary, and Wilfred D’Souza.

The first half ended goalless, but in the second half, Bardez Veterans took control. A corner by Jackie Rodrigues led to a header by Seby Da Costa, breaking the deadlock. Narendra Gad, the former Salgaocar defender, added another with a long-range strike, and Alexander Fernandes sealed the 3-0 victory for Bardez Veterans.
