Perpetual Succour Convent High School from Navelim delivered an impressive performance, defeating Mount Mary’s High School Chinchinim 4-0 to win the Navelim Villagers Union Under-14 Trophy, held in memory of the late Gavino D'Silva at Rosary Ground, Navelim, on Sunday.
From the outset, Perpetual Convent showcased their dominance, with Denilson Vaz opening the scoring and breaking the deadlock. Ethal Carvalho quickly doubled the lead, and Anosh Vaz solidified their advantage, making it 3-0 before the halftime whistle.
The second half continued in the same vein, with Byashroy Vaz sealing the victory by scoring the final goal of the match.
As champions, Perpetual Succour Convent were awarded Rs 15,000 along with the trophy, while runners-up Mount Mary’s High School received Rs 10,000.
Individual awards included Denilson Vaz being recognized for scoring the first goal of the final, Anosh Vaz named Best Player of the Final, and Pavel Pires awarded Best Goalkeeper for Perpetual Convent. Mayden Rebello from Mount Mary’s High School earned the title of Best Defender, and Ashroy Fernandes was recognised as Best Half.
The closing ceremony featured prominent guests, including Sr Liberata, Headmistress of Perpetual Succour Convent, as the chief guest. Sarmenta D'Silva, a former Maharashtra State player, served as guest of honour, alongside Trudy Luis, Headmistress of Mount Mary’s High School. Special invites included Micky Rebello, former Salgaocar GFDCC coach, and Salu Zidane Fernandes, a GFDC coach.
