Sporting Club of Davorlim secured a spot in the semifinals of the Benaulim Villagers Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over CAC Cansaulim in a tense quarterfinal encounter, held at the St John the Baptist Panchayat ground.
The first half was a cagey affair, dominated by midfield battles and cautious play from both sides. Neither team managed to convert their few chances, with the focus largely on containment rather than creativity.
The breakthrough came in the 41st minute when William Niasso produced a moment of brilliance, curling a superb free-kick over the Cansaulim wall and beyond the goalkeeper to give Davorlim the lead.
Cansaulim responded by pushing numbers forward in the second half in search of an equaliser, but Davorlim’s defence remained resolute. The backline held firm under pressure, displaying discipline and composure to deny their opponents.
Niasso’s stunning strike ultimately proved the difference as Davorlim sealed a gritty and well-earned win to march into the semifinals.
