Earn ticket to Delhi for National championship

St Anthony School Monte de Guirim emerged state champions in the U15 Nehru Hockey Tournament of the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, on Tuesday.
The Guirim school boys defeated Fr. Angel’s High School Pillar 3-2 in an electrifying final at Hockey Stadium Peddem Mapusa to earn a ticket to Delhi for the National level championship.
Mohan, Suraj and Nashon found the net for Guirim and Edimchube and Bishal scored for Fr. Agnel Pilar.
The Guirim school meant business right from the start and scored in the first minute of the match with Mohan getting his name on the scorers list through a penalty corner conversion.
They had to wait for another 32 minutes to get their second goal this time through the effort of Suraj who made sure he finished off the penalty corner with a precision strike to make it 2-0.
The Pilar school struck back in the second half with Edimchube scoring a field goal to make it 2-1 in the 49th minute.
A minute later, Guirim made it 3-1 with Nashon scoring a field goal to make it 3-1.
Pilar boys did not throw in the towel and made it 3-2 with a minute left for the final whistle with Bishal converting a penalty corner.
The scoreline remained the same way in the next one minute to give Guirim a fighting win.
In the third-place match, Janata High School Mapusa defeated Damodar English High School Gudi Paroda 2-1.
Jyotiba scored a brace for the Mapusa school scoring in the 26 and 29th minute, while Raddash pulled once back for the Gudi Paroda school in the 55th minute.
Devraj Tari, Zonal Sports Organiser of DYSA presented the trophy to the winning team.
Meanwhile in the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Nehru U17 Hockey Tournament Damodar HS Gudi trounced St. Anthony HS Majorda, 8-0 in the first round tie.
Gudi Paroda school struck goals in the 6,7, 15, 16, 18, 32, 26 and 43 minute to complete the one-sided win, six goals which were field goals and three penalty corner conversions.
Aftab opened the scoring in the 6th minute and scored a second goal in the 15th minute, in between Sarvesh scored his first of the three goals in the 7th minute. He went on to score two more goals in the 18th and 36 minute to complete his hattrick.
Gaurav, Laxman and Sahil scored one goal each to complete the resounding win.
