Red Bull's Max Verstappen put on another precision drive to win the Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on Sunday. Victory saw the Dutchman match Formula 1 great Ayrton Senna's record of 41 race wins, a driver he is often compared to for his racecraft and divisiveness.
Max also notched Red Bull's 100th win in F1 and has been a force to reckon with this season. He has led every lap since the Miami GP back on May 7 and is well on his way to winning a third drivers championship. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso finished in second with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton in third. Red Bull's legendary aerodynamicist Adrian Newey also shared the dais in the post-race award ceremony completing a grand podium. "What an honour to share the podium with these F1 legends," tweeted Alonso after the race.
While Red Bull continued its dominant run with 8 wins from as many races, the gap between the leaders and the rest of the pack is beginning to close. Aston Martin brought in a significant upgrade to Canada but were unable to extract its full potential as Alonso had to nurse the car to the finish line due to an issue.
Hamilton in the Mercedes also had a great race with the Brit jumping Alonso on the start only for the Spaniard to regain the position on Lap 22. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari's finished in fourth and fifth respectively. The prancing horses will be happy with the result after a poor qualifying from Charles and a penalty for Carlos that saw the duo start from 10th and 11th on the grid.
