MARGAO
Vasco Sports Club are all set to sign former Dempo Sports Club forward Joaquim Abranches for the upcoming season.
Abranches, 34, has loads of experience of playing top-level football with the Golden Eagles and is a veteran of the dressing room. He picked up the ropes of the game at Salcete Football Club in 2003 before moving to Churchill Brothers FC for a brief stint in 2004 and in the same year made the move to Dempo.
Abranches made his senior debut for Dempo in 2007 and established himself as a key player for the Armando Colaco-coached side, winning major trophies like Durand Cup, Super Cup, Federation Cup and I-League with the all-conquering Golden Eagles.
The Verna-born striker also donned the colours of East Bengal after he moved to Kolkata in 2013. He later had loan stints in the Indian Super League with FC Pune City and FC Goa before he returned to Dempo in 2016.
The veteran striker will look to make an impact with Vasco SC, who are looking to build a strong squad which would be capable of challenging the likes of Churchill Brothers, Dempo, Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar FC in the upcoming season.
